Old Columbans RFC competesin Sevens and the City
Great to see our OCs Rugby 7s team back out for the new season as they entered the Sevens and The City event at the home of Saracens at Allianz Park on Saturday 2nd July. The team had a great time and won two out of their three group games, which unfortunately wasn’t enough to see them progress further in the tournament. Thank you to all the players for their dedication in putting the OCs on the rugby map.
Columban BBQ to mark Rory Byrne's Retirement
The Columban community came together on a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon at SCC to say goodbye to Rory Byrne who is retiring after 34 years at the school. David Shannon-Little paid tribute to Rory as one of the most outstanding teachers this school has ever experienced. Rory has been a passionate History teacher, Head of House, Head of Year, football and cricket coach, producer of drama and music performances – a man of capability, a man of integrity and a man who will be greatly missed by the College. A full account of Rory’s career at SCC will appear in the next Columban magazine.
The New ' Old Columbans'
Friday 25th June was a busy day for our A Level students as they finished their exams, attended Prize Giving and celebrated the end of their SCC school days at the annual ‘Leavers’ Dinner. The new ‘Old Columbans’ and staff enjoyed a three- course meal at the Noke hotel in St Albans and a great night was had by all as they danced until the early hours!
We wish the boys the very best as they start the next chapter of their lives and we look forward to staying in touch and seeing them at future OC and Columban events.

At school, George was a keen scientist and went on to achieve a PHD in hydrocolloid chemistry. In 2007, he started his own company, Agrigum International Ltd, which manufactures a product called gum acacia and is used by many industries such as food, beverage, confectionary, pharmeceutical and neutraceutical.

The group gathered at Iona house for a drinks reception and were then taken on a tour of the school. Later, the group enjoyed a 3-course dinner and had a great evening catching up with each other. For some of the OCs, it was the first time that they had returned to the school since they left, all those years ago!
